About the Division
The City of DeKalb operates in compliance with locally adopted codes that are designed to maintain a healthy, safe, and clean environment and to preserve the quality of life that residents and businesses enjoy in our community.

The purpose of the Building and Code Enforcement Division is to maintain a safe and desirable community for the citizens of DeKalb. There is a duty to protect the public from disaster due to fire, structural collapse, and general deterioration which underscores the need for modern codes and their administration. Safety is achieved through proper design and construction practices, issuance of permits, and inspections that verify compliance with building codes.

  • Provide technical assistance to residents and contractors
  • Review building permit applications
The Building Division also strives to maintain a desirable community by enforcing local Property Maintenance codes as well as responding to citizen concerns.
