About the County DeKalb County
was founded in 1837, which had previously been part of Kane County.
The county was named in honor of Johann de Kalb, a German hero of the
American Revolutionary War. According to the American Community Survey of the U.S. Census, the population of DeKalb was 101,275 as of 2007.
The DeKalb-Sycamore Urbanized Area is located in the center of the county and Sycamore is the county seat. The County Executive is the 1 voting member on the Policy Committee, with the DeKalb County Highway Department Director serving as the 1 voting member on the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
