About the Organization Northern Illinois University Student Association (NIU-SA) was founded in 1968 to promote the welfare of students on NIU’s campus. 35 years later the organization’s purpose then and now is to voice the concerns and questions of the student body to the university administration. Student Association executive elections are held each spring semester through a campus wide election. Student Senate elections are held in the fall.
The NIU-SA oversees the operations of the HuskieLine. The HuskieLine provides bus service to the Students, Faculty, and Staff of NIU. The system is funded from student fees.
As the manager of the HuskieLine, the NIU-SA oversees the operations of the majority of the public transit provided in the DSATS region. The NIU-SA is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The NIU-SA Director of Mass Transit has 1 vote on the Technical Advisory Committee.
