Election of Officers

DSATS Bylaws state the Chair of an advisory subcommittee shall be named by the Chair of the DSATS committee appointing the subcommittee. The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) appointed the Active Transportation Subcommittee. Mark Bushnell, the Chair of TAC, appointed Paul LaLonde as Chair of the Active Transportation Subcommittee. Mr. LaLonde was selected because of his ability to provide an impartial view of the active transportation needs of DSATS and his familiarity with the entire DSATS region. The TAC Chair encourages the Subcommittee to use similar considerations when selecting a Vice-Chair.

5.

Selection of Regular Meeting Date

DSATS must publish the meeting dates, times, and locations of all public meetings for the year. Changes to meeting dates, times, or locations must be published in a public advertisement. Subcommittee members will decide on a regular meeting date and time for publication.

ACTION: Approve proposed date and time of future Active Transportation Subcommittee meetings.

Active Transportation Plan

DSATS last updated its Active Transportation Plan in 2011. This plan is attached for subcommittee member review.

Schedule

Staff have prepared a tentative schedule for the completion of the DSATS Active Transportation Plan.

Goals

The previous Active Transportation Plan goals are attached for review. Subcommittee members will be asked to consider if the goals from the previous plan remain applicable. Staff requests comments no later than March 7, 2017. These comments will be incorporated into staff developed goals to be reviewed at the March meeting.

Plan Website

Staff will develop a website using the Story Maps platform through ESRI. An example of a story map can be found online HERE. Staff request members send active transportation photos from the region to be included in the story map developed for this plan.
7.

Safe Routes to School

Staff have been informed that IDOT expects a new funding cycle for the Safe Routes to School program later this year. Staff have contacted the DeKalb and Sycamore school districts about serving on this subcommittee but have yet to hear back. If subcommittee members have a contact at either school district, staff invites members to reach out to invite representatives from the school district to join this subcommittee.

Additional Business

Subcommittee members are invited to address other items not listed on the agenda and are encouraged to propose new items for the next agenda.
