At the November 13, 2017, City Council meeting, Live Healthy DeKalb County presented the City of DeKalb with its organizational Health Partner Award. Live Healthy DeKalb County is a collaboration of more than 24 local businesses whose focus is to promote a fun, healthy lifestyle in DeKalb County. The Health Partner Award was established to recognize an individual and/or organization each year that models this approach in the community.
The City proudly accepted this year’s award for its efforts to promote bicycling as a healthy alternative mode of transportation in DeKalb. Through its hard work, the City earned bronze-level status as a Bicycle Friendly Community through the League of American Bicyclists in 2016 and consistently strives to improve bicycle safety and improve connectivity of bicycle paths in the region. These initiatives are some of the many ways the City is achieving its Vision of Accessibility identified in the DeKalb 2025 Strategic Plan.
Live Healthy DeKalb County also presented the individual Health Partner Award to Shelly Tranchita, a teacher at Sycamore High School, who brings a healthy mind and body philosophy to the classroom by offering positive experiences like yoga to her students.
