2017 Illinois Department of Transportation Freight Plan

The 2017 Illinois State Freight Plan was developed in accordance with the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act guidelines, signed into law in December 2015.  Over 1 billion tons of freight was moved to, from, or within Illinois in 2014 and that freight was valued at nearly $3 trillion.  This is done through Illinois’ multi-modal network that includes highways, waterways, rail, and air.  The freight plan provides further data and analysis on the movement of these goods.  It identifies major freight corridors and bottlenecks on Illinois’ system.  The Department is currently working on a Call for Projects to use the freight formula funds established under the FAST Act.  Selected projects will be added to the finalized freight plan.
