The demolition of the property located at 203 E. Lincoln Highway, which is located at the northeast corner of Lincoln Highway and Second Street, will commence on Monday, March 26, 2018. Demolition crews will begin fencing off the area surrounding the property on Monday, March 26, 2018. Physical demolition will begin the following day, Tuesday, March 27, 2018. It is currently anticipated that demolition will take approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Demolition crews will be using water hoses to spray the site during demolition to reduce the amount of dust and airborne debris.
In August of 2017, the City approved the redevelopment of the property to be converted into a four-story mixed-use building. The ground floor of the new building will house a specialty grocery store, with 21 new apartments on the second through fourth floors. At the time of approval, it was unknown as to whether the existing structure would support the construction of an additional three floors. It has been determined that a partial demolition of the structure will be required to reinforce the structural integrity of the building. Unlike the demolition required for the Cornerstone project, the foundation will not require removal, reducing the impact and time of demolition.
