  1. Crime Fiction Book Club: I See You by Clare Mackintosh

    It all starts during her commute home one night. Zoe Walker glances through her local paper and sees her own face staring back at her in a classified ad. With the grainy photo is a phone number and a listing for a website called FindTheOne.com. In the following days, she sees other women in the same ad, a different one every day, and nearly all of them show up in the newspapers as victims of increasingly violent crimes–including murder. With the help of a determined cop, Zoe uncovers the ad’s twisted purpose. The Crime Fiction Book Club is for adults who enjoy quality novels in the mystery/suspense genre. Join us in the community conference room for a lively and informal discussion. Books are available for check out from the book club shelf, and refreshments are provided!     Would you like your own mini-Mjölnir? Always thought you could hang with The Avengers? Or maybe you just really enjoy Norse mythology? Come join us as we use TinkerCAD to learn some basic 3D modeling and customize your very own hammer! After the class, we’ll print the hammer out for you on our 3D printers to be picked up in a couple of days. This class and the accompanying 3D print is completely free! We do ask that participants be at least 8 years old, and have basic computer skills. No experience with 3D design or printing is required. Sign up begins 15 minutes before class in the Nancy D.     NIU Libraries and the DeKalb Public Library have partnered to commemorate the centennial of Gwendolyn Brooks. Please join us in celebrating the life and works of this historic poet! The NIU School of Art and Design will display student artwork throughout the DeKalb Public Library’s lower level. At the opening reception, members of the Xi Delta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta will be unveiling the art and reading excerpts of Brooks’ poetry. Also, be sure to visit the Gwendolyn Brooks exhibits on the 2nd and 4th floors of Founders Memorial Library starting in October. The closing reception will be held on Thursday, December 7 from 4:00—5:30 p.m. at the Founders Memorial Library on the first floor.
