The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners select and appoint qualified candidates to fill sworn vacancies within the Fire and Police Departments. The BFPC also conducts all promotional testing for the ranks of Police Sergeant, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, and Battalion Chief.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (BFPC) regularly meets on the first Tuesday of February, May, August, and November at 5:00 p.m. at the Police Headquarters, 700 W Lincoln Highway, DeKalb, Illinois.
The Board recruits, selects and appoints qualified candidates to fill vacancies, determines testing and selection processes for the promotional process, and conducts disciplinary hearings or appeals of disciplinary action in the Fire and Police Departments.
The BFPC shall have three (3) Commissioners appointed by the Mayor with consent from the City Council. Terms equal three (3) years.
