Like many of you, the
City of DeKalb Public Transit Staff are closely watching what is happening with
COVID-19 (Coronavirus) around the world and here at home. While there are no known cases of the virus
in DeKalb County currently, the safety of our passengers, employees, and the
community remains our top priority.
TransVAC and Huskie
Line have implemented increased daily cleaning regiments for all vehicles used
in public transit service. This includes
disinfecting common areas of the vehicles such as stanchions, seats, handrails,
and door handles. Bus operators are
equipped with Lysol, Clorox Wipes, and hand sanitizer to ensure a sanitary
environment within the driver’s compartment and passenger area.
The most effective way to prevent the spread of disease are things you can do yourself.
We strongly encourage everyone to follow these recommendations from the
Centers for Disease Control:
- Wash your hands often
with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your
eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact
with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are
sick.
- Cover your cough or
sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect
frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- If you’re experiencing symptoms
and have traveled to areas of concern (or have been in contact with someone who
has), call ahead to your health-care provider before you go in person. Arrange for special transportation to and
from your medical appointment. Do not
use public transportation.
The City of DeKalb Public Transit Staff will continue to
monitor COVID-19 related developments and take appropriate action in consultation
with public health authorities.
