As we go about our daily lives, we are doing so as free men and women, embraced by and embracing the freedoms that we have as citizens of the United States.
However, we are not free of the dangers of COVID19, a vicious virus that has put a stranglehold on our nation. While we all desire a safe environment in which to live, to work, to raise or families, COVID has presented challenges as to just how to achieve the safety we so very much want.
As I travel around our City, I applaud those of us who have protected ourselves…and those around us…with the wearing of masks. As Mayor of the City of DeKalb, I strongly encourage all of our citizens to do the same when in public places, especially in locales where social distancing is difficult to manage.
I realize there are some who tout individual liberty as the basis of their decision not to join most of their fellow citizens in wearing appropriate face covering or masks during this pandemic. Now, as this State and this region face a spike in this virus, please…please…protect yourself and others by wearing a mask. By doing so, you’ll be helping all of us to stop community spread.
It’s simply the right thing to do.
