Fire Hydrant Maintenance Underway

A hydrant is flushed.

The City of DeKalb will be performing maintenance and flushing of all fire hydrants beginning in June.

Members of the DeKalb Fire Department and Public Works Utility Division will be in your neighborhood inspecting hydrants. As part of the work, the caps on the hydrants will be removed so the gaskets can be inspected and any corrosion can be removed from the brass rings. A low-flow flush of the hydrant will also be done.

If any needed repairs are found during the inspection, Utility Division team members will return to the hydrant to make the repairs.

The maintenance and flushing are expected to be completed by the end of September.
