Community members have planned events to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday.
The third annual Juneteenth Community Celebration will be held in Hopkins Park on Sunday, June 18 from noon to 4 p.m. There will be activities, free food, Black trivia, music and dancing, Black vendors, local social services, games and more. A Juneteenth Block Party will be held on Monday, June 19 in downtown DeKalb. The event will be held on Third Street, north of Lincoln Highway, from noon to 7 p.m. and will celebrate the national holiday of Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people.
