Beginning February 27, 2023, at 12:01 A.M. the City of DeKalb will prohibit oversized vehicles from traveling on specific roads. The restriction shall remain in effect until further notice.
Current weather conditions contribute to a phenomenon known as the “spring freeze/thaw cycle.” Warm temperatures thaw frozen water settled in the soil beneath roads. The unsettling creates a weakened subsurface easily susceptible to damage from oversized vehicles traveling over the road pavement.
Vehicles prohibited from traveling on posted roads include:
- Single axle vehicles exceeding 8,000 lbs. per axle
- Tandem axle vehicles exceeding 11,000 lbs. per axle with a gross weight of 33,000 lbs. or more
Seasonal weight limits will be in effect for the following roadways:
Seasonal Weight Limits Road List
|South First Street||Fairview Drive||Taylor Street|
|Pleasant Street||Enterprise Drive||Loves Roads|
|Twombly Road||Annie Glidden Road||West City Limits|
|Gurler Road||South First Street||Route 23|
|Malta Road||Annie Glidden Road||West City Limits|
|Bethany Road||Tygert Lane||West City Limits|
The oversized vehicle restrictions are seasonal, and the standard restrictions will resume once the “spring freeze/thaw cycle” completes.
Conditions may permit travel depending on the load size. Contact Andy Raih at the Public Works Department at (815) 748-2040 to request permission.
