The goal of the Public Works Department is to provide the residents of DeKalb with the best water, storm sewer, City right of ways, aviation, engineering and transportation services in an affordable and reasonable way.
Duties of the Divisions
The DeKalb Sycamore Area Transportation Study (DSATS) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the DeKalb Illinois Metropolitan Region.
The DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport (DTMA) services the general aviation community with fueling, hangar rentals, and other aviation services.
The Engineering Division has the overall responsibility for the design and maintenance of the infrastructure of DeKalb that includes streets, alleys, and more.
The Street Division is responsible for the daily maintenance and repair of the City's streets, alleys, parking lots, and more.
The Utility Division oversees the City of DeKalb's public water system, a modern, state-of-the-art water supply, that uses a combination of ion exchange softening and iron removal filtration to produce a reliable and safe water source to the citizens of DeKalb and Northern Illinois University.
